Implementing the World Bank Small Grants Program

In 2003 and 2005, DemNet was awarded to implement the World Bank Small Grant Program in Hungary. The goal of the program is to fight against extreme poverty as well as engagement and the social inclusion of the most disadvantaged and vulnerable groups through the financial support of civil society organizations. Each year an open call for applications is available for grassroots NGOs, which may apply with a variety of different programs to enhance policy advocacy, civic engagement and community actions. The specific focus of the small grants program this year is to contribute to the implementation of Roma Decade Initiative, a joint effort of Central and Eastern European countries to significantly improve the life of the Roma over the next ten years. In 2003 13, currently 12 NGOs were selected to receive small grants (maximum of 4000 EUR) for their one-year action. DemNet proposed a new grants management methodology and protocol to the World Bank, which were accepted and implemented during the selection process. Final reports are downloadable from our website.
