About us

Policy work

DemNet was among the first in Hungary to focus on global development cooperation as a policy area. From the very start, our goal was to make Hungary’s global engagement with developing countries more effective and visible. In this effort, we have cooperated with successive Hungarian governments, scientific experts, other NGOs and a wide a variety of stakeholders in the area of development policy.

Since global challenges can only be tackled in the framework of global cooperation, DemNet is an engagedmember of a variety of international umbrella organizations and is active in promoting a host of policy initiatives. Jointly with our partners, we contribute to expert policy work at the EU-level as well as other international platforms. Through our publications and research we strive to continuously infuse Hungarian (and Central European) perspectives into the global thinking about international development policies, as well as to make the best possible use in Hungary of all the experience and inspiration that we gather through our international engagement.

Campaigns

If we close our eyes to the problems afflicting our Earth then we will have missed our chance to reverse the processes that threaten economic, social and environmental sustainability. That is why the realization of the objectives outlined in the Sustainable Development Goals is so vital. However, a successful realization of this vast effort depends on all of us. We need to be aware of the global challenges and we have to know what we can do to make the world more sustainable and fairer. That is what we would like to promote in our awareness-raising work.

Realization of international projects

Cooperation and an exchange of insights and experiences between developed and developing countries are key aspects of international development. So is “helping on location”, which forces those who provide aid and expertise to focus on actual needs and challenges. DemNet has been actively implementing projects in the nations of the Balkans and in the Caucasus for two decades now, always in cooperation with local partners.

In cooperation with a wide variety of civil organization we created community houses and implemented other programs in Serbia and Montenegro; we trained NGOs in Bosnia-Herzegovina on how specific policies could be advocated for more effectively; we showed NGOs in Georgia how genuine intersectoral cooperation can be best realized; and in Azerbaijan, Armenia and Moldova we talked to youth to discuss why active citizenship is vital and we examined how cooperation between local governments and the private sector could become more effective, and how these can lead to the practical implementation of initiatives that improve the lives of their communities.
